Modelled dynamic retreat of Kangerlussuaq Glacier, East Greenland, strongly influenced by the consecutive absence of an ice mélange in Kangerlussuaq Fjord

چکیده
Abstract Mass loss at the Greenland Ice Sheet is influenced by atmospheric processes controlling its surface mass balance, and submarine melt calving where glaciers terminate in fjords. There, an ice mélange – a composite matrix of calved bergs sea may provide buttressing force on glacier terminus control dynamics. Kangerlussuaq Glacier major outlet Sheet, for which recent retreat events 2004/2005 2016–2018 coincided with absence Fjord. To better understand response to climatic oceanic drivers, 2D flowline model employed. Results indicate that exerts frequency rapid retreat. When forms Fjord, it provides stabilising forces conditions favourable winter re-advance. fails form during consecutive years, results primed into large overdeepenings positions more than 30 km farther inland, implying excessive from year 2065 cannot be excluded.

Rapid retreat and acceleration of Helheim Glacier, east Greenland
[1] A significant amount of the measured coastal thinning of the Greenland ice sheet may be due to recent acceleration of outlet glaciers. Using remote sensing, we measured two major periods of speedup on Helheim Glacier between 2000 and 2005 that increased peak speeds from approximately 8 to 11 km/yr. These speedups coincided with rapid retreats of the calving front, totaling over 7.5 km. The ...

this study investigates the cohesive devices used in the textbook of english for the students of psychology. the research questions and hypotheses in the present study are based on what frequency and distribution of grammatical and lexical cohesive devices are. then, to answer the questions all grammatical and lexical cohesive devices in reading comprehension passages from 6 units of 21units th...
Recent retreat of major outlet glaciers on Novaya Zemlya, Russian Arctic, influenced by fjord geometry and sea-ice conditions
Substantial ice loss has occurred in the Russian High Arctic during the past decade, predominantly on Novaya Zemlya, yet the region has been studied relatively little. Consequently, the factors forcing mass loss and the relative contribution of ice dynamics versus surface melt are poorly understood. Here we evaluate the influence of atmospheric/oceanic forcing and variations in fjord width on t...
متن کاملGreenland outlet glacier ice - flow variability
1 I ce mass loss from the Greenland Ice Sheet is a primary contributor to global sea level rise. The rate of ice loss has accelerated over the last couple of decades and Greenland currently contributes about 0.7-1.1 mm/yr to sea-level rise (260-380 Gt/ice per year; Enderlin et al. 2014; Shepherd et al. 2012). Predicting the potential rate and limits of future mass loss requires a clear understa...
متن کاملRapid early Holocene retreat of a Laurentide outlet glacier through an Arctic fjord
Ice-sheet behaviour is disproportionately controlled by the dynamics of outlet glaciers that terminate in the ocean1,2. However, outlet-glacier dynamics—particularly over timescales longer than the observational record—are not well understood3, leading to uncertainties in our models of ice-sheet response to climate change. Here we use 10Be exposure ages and radiocarbon dating from the Sam Ford ...
